March 29th is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Nearly 2.7 million American men and women served in Vietnam, with around 850,000 Vietnam Veterans living today. As we honor those who served our country during this time, it’s important to recognize the care needs these men and women currently have or will need as they age. At the heart of SilverAssist, our mission is to simplify the journey of receiving and paying for senior care. We are honored to help Vietnam Veterans and their spouses find the financial resources to help them pay for the assistance they need and deserve.

AidandAttendance.com is SilverAssist’s online solution that simplifies the application process for the Aid and Attendance benefit, which provides supplemental funds to qualifying Veterans and spouses in need of care. In 2023 alone, SilverAssist worked with over 500 Vietnam Veteran clients, who on average, saw an extra $2,000.00 per month in additional funds. In total, we helped secure over $12 million in annual Aid and Attendance benefits in 2023 that helped Veterans receive the care they need.

SilverAssist’s online application solution and dedicated support team help Veterans and their spouses understand the VA’s eligibility criteria, submit an Intent to File, and complete the 30+ pages of complex government paperwork. Emily Schwarz, ElderLife Financial Services, VP of Sales, worked with Robert Blumberg, VA Accredited Attorney and founder of  VA Legal Team, LLC, to develop the Aid and Attendance online solution from 2018 to 2019. Blumberg said, “Working with Emily to develop the Aid and Attendance software was an exciting time. The VA had just changed the regulations for the Aid and Attendance benefit, and many professionals were leaving the space due to the complexity of the new rules. Emily and I wanted to create a simple yet robust software to help Veterans and their families successfully complete the application and receive much-needed and deserved benefits. I think we accomplished that goal.”

Although we can not change how long it takes for the VA to approve applications, the online solution helps Veterans and their families complete the application correctly, ultimately cutting down the wait time to receive the benefit.

The Aid and Attendance benefit can result in up to $2,727.00 of additional monthly funds for Vietnam Veterans and their spouses in 2024. Benefit recipients qualify due to their military service, health situation, and financial status, among other factors, so this extra money can help pay for needed care as Vietnam Veterans age.

SilverAssist values the service these men and women have given to our country, and we will continue to be a resource to assist them in receiving the care they need through 2024 and beyond. As we reflect and honor Vietnam Veterans on March 29, we want to thank every Veteran who served in Vietnam for the service you dedicated to this country.
